What are some recommended prepared curry sauces?
First, yes I know there isn’t one type of curry!
I’ve made what was called British- or Restaurant-style curry sauce before from scratch (onions, garlic, ginger & spices), and while it’s good it is a pain to make! I’m looking for something in a can or jar that’s either fairly widely available or available online. Also, what might a medium curry sauce be called? I had something with Bombay Sauce recently that was very much what I wanted.
I want something that is good for vegetarian dishes mostly.
Thanks in advance

i buy these nice curry cubes that you add on your stews and whatnots.. they are a japanese product (jap. curry)
there are also products coming from thailand. prepared red, green, and yellow curry.
check your asian store for them.
hope i helped you
I cooked curry a lot and I hate to buy any prepared curry sauces from stores. They are rancid in flavor. It is better to do it yourself but next time. dear, do it in a large quantity so u can freeze it up for future use.
Don’t know where you are located geographically, but in the US, Thai Kitchen brand is WONDERFUL!!!! I use their red curry paste and tom ka gai soup mix all the time. You can get these in healthfood stores, co-ops and many, many grocery stores.
I’m with you… making curry from scratch can be a pain, especially if I don’t make it that often.
I just tried a curry mix I found in an Asian market (but I’ve, also, seen these brands in the regular supermarket), but it was a Japanese brand. It turned out pretty good.
I don’t quite remember the name, but it had the word Vermont in the name.
Edit…
I found a website showning the packages…
and
I tried both out of curiosity to see which was better. They both turned out surprisingly good.
Any of the Patak’s brand sauces and pastes are terrific. My personal favorite is the Balti paste.
The best ready made curry sauces are actually packets (they are masala or spice mixture packets) known as PARAMPARA. They are very tasty, easy to make and authentic. They have a huge variety of both veg & non veg spice mixtures.
The bottled curry sauces I have tried are just awful and dont taste authentic (Sharwoods, Pataks…).
For South Indian type curries, use MTR brand.
Other good brands are Nirav, Shan & Badshah. But PARAMPARA is the best, hands down.
These are all readily available in any Indian grocery store.
Mild curries: korma, makhani
Medium curries: dopiaza, jalfrezi, tikkas
Hot curries: vindaloos, south Indian
Mind Blowing curries: PHAAL
I love the Kitchens of India, or most products in any Indian Grocery store, including the cubes.
